Sites Tue 21-Jul-2009 – Eagle has landed, One small step, Apollo 11, Windows Live

apollo_11_photo_from_LM_window Today (Australian time) was a busy day in the re-enactment of Apollo 11:

  • the Eagle landed on the moon’s surface
  • after making preparations in case of an unexpected event and having to ascend back to the Command Service Module, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin prepared to leave the lunar module

I’m going to step off the LM now.
That’s one small step for a man. One giant leap for mankind.
As the – The surface is fine and powdery. I can – I can pick it up loosely, with my toe. It does adhere in fine layers like powdered charcoal to the sole and sides of my boots. I only go in a small fraction of an inch. Maybe an eighth of an inch, but I can see the footprints of my boots and the treads in the fine sandy particles.
